4 habits to motivate yourself to study

Sun Sep 11, 2022

They say that motivation comes from within. There is absolutely no doubt about it. When you are emotionally attached to an idea, you do anything to make it happen. But what if you don’t have such an attachment? There are a lot of times when you know that you NEED to do something important, but you don’t WANT to do it. As a result, you end up putting off that task till its deadline. Then, it isn’t important anymore. It is now urgent, and urgency does no good to anyone. So, how to avoid this? Below are some tactics that can drive you to begin your study.

1. De-clutter your place or, let’s say, your life.
It has been scientifically proven that a cluttered or messy environment drastically decreases the will to study/work. And, if somehow you begin, your productivity will be very poor. An organized and clean environment will keep you positive and motivate you to study. You’ll find an increase in your output while studying in such a spacious and hygienic environment.
PRO TIP: Clean and maintain your study room yourself instead of getting someone else to do it. This will give you a sense of responsibility and also drive you better towards studying.

2. Plan the night before.
Planning your tasks can give you a lot of clarity which is the first requirement for anything to be done. Without it, your execution will always be messy due to the absence of a direction. The logic behind planning before sleeping is that when you wake up in the morning (early), your mind will already have a tone set for it. What you plan before sleeping largely affects what you do when you get up. So, before you go to bed, decide what to study in the morning and keep your books on the table.
PRO TIP: Do not set big targets right away because if they are not achieved, you will be demotivated. So, set small targets initially.

3. Use a table and a chair.
The most common cause of lack of motivation and focus is wrong posture. If you begin your study on your bed, you will soon lose your drive and give up on your study. However, if you begin with a table and a chair, your body will be in the right posture and your mind will remain active. This will keep you driven and focused for long, and you will get a lot of work done. Taking a 5-minute break if you feel tired will be a good idea but avoiding getting back on the bed is must.

4. Turn off all your gadgets and social media.
Motivation ends where distraction begins. Facebook, Instagram, etc. are always opened with an intention to just have a look but they eventually engage you and eat up a lot of your precious time. It is very important to have a tunnel vision of your study to motivate yourself to do it. Technology is the easiest distraction these days and should be definitely avoided during your self-study hours. Avoiding it during those hours will lead you to work longer and better, and also help you get rid of its addiction slowly and steadily.

Having these four tactics won’t give you results in a day but you and the people around you will be able to notice your progress week by week if these are maintained. Do let me know if it brings about any change in you. If you have any feedback, feel free to share it in the comments section. Good luck.
